Set White
My camera takes reddish-tinted pictures and the white balance is set on Auto?
I use a Nikon Coolpix L4, a small pocket camera, that takes oddly colored photos no matter what I set the white balance on. When I take portraits of myself, my hair looks orangey (but I'm blonde), my eyes look goldish (they're green) and my skin looks pink (I'm pale with freckles).
So the coloring is WAY off and I don't know how to fix it.
Should I just buy a better camera?
The key with white balance is to tell the camera what setting you are in and it will correct the colors to the best of its abilities. If you have a way to set it manually on your camera/take readings, that would work as well. So if you're shooting in day light, choose the daylight setting; shade, shade; cloudy, cloudy; indoors, choose according to your light source...tungsten, flourescent, etc. If after setting it correctly, the colors are still off, there might be something wrong with your camera that you would want to get fixed, or just buy a better one. But never depend on auto unless its your only choice! It doesn't really know!
