Why does my titanium bike frame looks like a clear coat peeling?
I have a titanium bike frame and it is not painted. He was sitting outside on the weather for a couple seasons now and forks and some of the rest of the frame has a look as a clear coat peeling, it peel off. There is no rust in these areas and the color of titanium is always still normal, it looks like a hard clear coat peeling. What could be and can it be repaired?
Many titanium frames have a clear coat, and if it is exposed to the elements long enough, it can chip or flake. Titanium will never rust, and most people find pleasant natural titanium visually. There no reason to cover it, unless you like the look of the painting or need a certain color. If it were me, I would remove all the components and the strip to the metal, leaving a natural finsih later. Or, to add zing, take a steel wool or gravel high (fine) and brush sandpapre circumferentially.
