What is an inexpensive yet durable crankest for a downhill mountain bike?
I've just recently bought a new trek 4300 with disc brakes and ive been riding the crap out of it. I realized that one of my gears started falling and i looked and one of them was bent so i hammered it straight, but the same problem kept happening so i decided to buy a new crankest. Since i am fairly new to this sport i don't know what brand and model i should buy please help, thanks in advance. Like i said for a downhill mountain bike and biker.
The SLX that Edward suggested is a great crankset and they're plenty tough. I'd definately agree with him that you are not riding a downhill bike so you need to keep that in mind and also, you really should opt for a bashguard if you're bending your rings.
All that being said, I'd recommend the Race Face Atlas AM or FR Cranks. The FR's are a bit beefier and include the bashguard, either is tough as nails and pretty lightweight. Race Face packs their bottom brackets with Phil Wood's grease too so the BB's are pretty durable.
If you're deadset on some real downhill cranks... Absolutely NOTHING can touch the new Shimano Saints, the M-810 & 815 series cranks. The idiot who said he hates Shimano has no clue what he's talking about. The new Saints are mind blowing, straight up... Sub 1100 grams and absolutely bullet proof... plus they're dead sexy! I actually run Saints on ALL my bikes now except for my XC bike which runs XTR. Shimano has always, does currently, and likely will continue to make some of the best cranks on the market.
