Fixed gear chain ring and cog question?
I bought this bike 1 week ago.

and i wanted to upgrade the cog to a stronger cog (i am running brake less) so i have to have something strong and good.The chain size is 3/32 and i noticed that the chain brand that i was looking for only came in 1/8 sizes (izumi) what would be more effective way to go about making my bike better?Should i just buy a 3/32 cog and keep the current chain ring or buy a 1/8 cog and a 1/8 chain ring and keep the cranks?What would be a stronger combo?what is a good strong 3/32 chain?Thank you all!!
If you know anything about fixed gear bicycles the chain ring,cog and chain are my only brakes since i have no brakes. the cog on the bike is a generic cog it is stamped out of a sheet of metal it is not machined steel like a dura ace or a eai.Read my question right please.
If it were me, I'd just run what you have until it wears out and then replace it with something else. Keep your lockring tight and you shouldn't have any issues with the rear cog unless you really mash hard up a hill and your chainline is off badly.
If you want a stronger cog, get a Surly, Chris King stainless, or a Niner. Keep the chainring you have until it wears out, unless you want a different size. A strong chain is good, but you can choose either a 3/32" or 1/8". Get a dedicated singlespeed chain, though.....multi-speed chains will work but a singlespeed will run smoother. If you have some chainline issues and get get it spot on, you can run a 1/8" chain and it will help alleviate some of that.
http://www.webcyclery.com has always been a great source for SS parts, but it's so popular now that most other sites are on the bandwagon, too. You won't have any problem finding the parts if you want them.
