On a road bike what ways to reduce the weight of the bike with buying a new one?
any part of my bike Raod is made of Cro-Moly, with a range of carbon fiber. along with Shimano Tiagra / Sora derailleurs. Now it is about 21 pounds. the seat is not the fiber carbon.
While I agree with some guys above, you asked about lightening your bike and there are things you can do. First the balance of utility versus cost. Basically, think to yourself: this is the cost worth it? And the cost should be a problem since you bought an entry level bike and not a luxury. To see the changes significant weight is very expensive so you need to shop wisely. The most important place to gain weight for a performance gain is on the wheel - the rim, the tire and tube. Items that can affect the weight of an entry-level bike the most out of the frame are: wheels, tires, tubes, fork, crank holder and down, the pedals. The post, saddle, bars and stem to a lesser degree. Your brakes, derailleurs and levers of performance let alone one can be very costly to change weight. Finally achieve light weight can be limiting. For example, the super light weight as the tires Conti Supersonics will save weight, but they wear quickly and race, not the tires of training. If your roads are smooth and clean, you puncture easily. In addition, super light weight parts sometimes weight limits. If your 150 pounds no problem, but if you're 180 pounds + to be careful what you buy. First you need to know what your pieces weigh to make a decision on replacing them. You can search for specs on the web (this can be difficult if you do not have the brand elements) or buy a small-scale e-mail. These can be found on Ebay for about $ 20 shipped. Replaced the bottom 105 (265g) with support DA (175g) $ 35 for a new EBay. Replaced the crank Ulterga 6500 (640g) with SuperLights FSA (530g) You used the handle in a state for $ 125 + on eBay again. American Classic CR420 bought wheels, used on eBay, (1425g) replacing Spinnergy Xaero wheels (1760g) Tires: I'm running Conti Supersonics, Michigan Pro2 Kenda pros and Keliente of 3 sets of wheels. 220g tires in the range are almost as light as I would go for high mileage riding on good roads. I did that and more as a weight weenie project. I have my bike Cannondale CAAD 5 15.8 lbs (about £ 19) with the lighter wheels. It was fun to do and I documented everything. But it also has some costs. I re-couped some of the cash purchase of the resale I have replaced parts. Now for the bad news. Previous to that I had a Trek 2200 road bike since I '94 bought it new. Equipped 105, 7 speed, matrix wheels 21 pounds - a little on the heavy side. Even though my new construction was 5 pounds least, the road to better, faster acceleration and worked better in general, I was only marginally faster when doing 10 mile TT course. I guess the wheels have 95% of the difference too. So do not think dropping a book on your bike will make you faster. While I like tinkering with my bikes, but I know it's the rider that makes the real difference.
