Climbing ability of Cannondale Rush Team Replica 2008?
My dad just got me a Rush Carbon Team Replica. I used to have a 2002 Cannondale Scalpel. I weigh 125 lbs. and am a very good climber compared to those that I ride with. I like to attribute this to my Scalpel. I was a little weary when I heard I was getting a new bike, but how can I pass up such a nice one? I would like your opinions on how well the rush climbs, since I am used to the stiffness of the Scalpel.
I'm not about to get a different bike, but it would be nice to hear your opinions on Cannondale as well.
If my memory is correct, the carbon Rush has 6 reviews on mtbreview.com and is rated at 5.0 (perfect), so people must like it.
Depending on your Scalpel model, your Rush might not be much heavier. It might even be lighter. Due to your size, bike weight would be a real issue. If it's got the RP23 shock, you can set it not to bob although a 125lb. rider is going to be more finesse, less mashing on the pedals. The other big difference between the two is that the Rush is more stable so it's better for long rides. You don't get as tired but it lacks the sharp handling of the Scalpel. The Rush bottom bracket is also lower so you're more likely to hit logs and rocks.
One other thing on the Rush Team, does it have a double or triple in front? If you're doing any real climbing, you might need to juggle the size of your chainrings and cassette.
I have an 06 Rush 2000 that has been a great bike. I wanted to upgrade to the carbon version until the new Scalpel came out. It's 100mm rear and 110mm front travel, approximately 22lbs. for the lightest version.
